Local Company Goes Carbon Neutral for Two Years

Setting Standards for the Environment

Virginia Beach, VA  (January, 2008)Committed to delivering high quality health and beauty products without sacrificing environmental responsibility, The Heritage Store, a local manufacturer of natural hair and oral care, skin and body care, and retailer of healthy life style products, sets industry standards higher with the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates from NativeEnergy offsetting 100% of its CO2 emissions from its facility energy use for two years.

NET-ZERO IMPACT ON OUR CLIMATE

The Heritage Store is excited to be able to offset 100% of the global warming impacts from the store’s business operations over the next two years. By partnering with NativeEnergy, a renewable energy business that works with Native American communities to develop wind-based, sustainable economies, The Heritage Store is helping “plant” wind turbines on the first Native American owned and operated large-scale wind farm. Every kilowatt-hour of electricity generated by the wind means the need for one less kilowatt-hour generated by burning fossil fuels, and a reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Funding turbine construction that offsets CO2 emissions with clean energy means The Heritage Store achieves a net-zero impact on our climate.

These investments have supported the Rosebud Sioux Tribe wind turbine in South Dakota, the first Native American-owned and operated commercial-scale wind project. This wind turbine now generates electricity that would otherwise have to come from polluting power facilities on the regional grid, preventing carbon dioxide (CO2), a leading cause of global warming, from entering the air.

This purchase offset the CO2 emissions from The Heritage Store facility’s energy heat and electricity usage and prevented the release of more than 1,098 tons of CO2. Offsetting the 1,098 tons of CO2, has the same global warming impact as taking183 average sized cars off the road for an entire year.

“Our mission at The Heritage Store is to care for the world we live in, to enhance the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health of all those we serve. Whether we’re sponsoring cars that run on our vegetable oil, packing shipments with cornstarch peanuts, or eliminating our carbon footprint, we strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of health but around the world.” Tom Johnson, founder  -- Online at: www.heritagestore.com or call (757) 428-0100

NativeEnergy is a national marketer of renewable energy credits or “green tags,” offering individuals and organizations a means to compensate for their global warming pollution, or to effectively power their homes and businesses with renewable energy. NativeEnergy’s patent-pending business process brings upfront payment to renewable projects for their future green tag output, enabling its customers to help finance the construction of new wind farms and other renewable energy projects, such as tribal wind projects and methane digesters on Pennsylvania family dairy farms, which directly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels to meet the nation’s electricity needs.  Online at: www.NativeEnergy.com
